About the department

The Department of Clinical Medicine (IKM) contributes with teaching, research and knowledge dissemination within the clinical field. IKM handles training of medical graduates in the Capital Region of Denmark and Region Zealand.

Employees

In round numbers, IKM consists of an academic staff of 260 clinical professors, 650 clinical associate professors and 65 clinical research associate professors, as well as 800 PhD students – all with primary appointments to hospitals in the Capital Region of Denmark and Region Zealand.

Based solely on the number of employees, IKM is the largest department at the University of Copenhagen.

The administrative staffers are the only ones located at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. All academic staff members are located at hospitals or other healthcare units in the Capital Region of Denmark or Region Zealand, which consolidates the strong ties between the University and the two regions.

Organisational framework

IKM is part of Copenhagen University Hospital, which is the organisational framework for the collaboration between Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, the Capital Region of Denmark and Region Zealand.
